Auditions for Rumors

Are you an aspiring actor? If you like to act and want to try out for a part in a play, auditions are being held for Neil Simon’s Rumors on January 22 and 23, 2011 at the Harris Arts Center in Calhoun, Georgia.

The play is a comedy about several affluent couples who find themselves having to cover up some complicated events that arise at a dinner party in a posh suburban home in New York City.

Audition times are 1 PM to 4 PM on January 22, 2011 and 3 PM to 5 PM on January 23, 2011. For more information and details, call 706-629-2599.

Tanna Key in Concert

Tanna Key will be performing on Indie Nite at the Harris Arts Center on January 21, 2011. She is a young, up and coming country artist who has been performing since she was 12 years old. She loves being on stage and finds that music never lets her down. She has been playing piano most of her life, plays guitar and writes music.

High School Poetry Slam

RapperAll high school students…bring your poetry whether it’s Rap, Rhyme, or Freestyle to the Harris Arts Center on September 25, 2010 from 7 PM to 9 PM for a chance to win some cash! All you have to do is show up, put your $1 entry fee into the pot, read your poetry, and whoever wins at the end of the evening will take the pot home. Make sure to register at the door that night if you plan on reading your poetry. There will be coffee and snacks available.

Randall Rutledge Book Signing

Don’t miss Calhoun’s own multi talented Randall Rutledge at the Harris Arts Center on September 11, 2010 from 4 pM to 6 PM for a book signing and a questions and answers session. He will be promoting his new book From Movie City to Music City USA (My Journey Through Showbiz and How it Works). His book is about his 25 year journey in the entertainment industry and focuses on helping those interested in pursuing their dreams in show business. He has been in just about every aspect of the entertainment industry from acting, screen writing, producing, and casting to understand the challenges a person faces when trying to make their dreams a reality.

Events at the Harris Arts Center

MusicAugust is a pretty busy month of musical events at the Harris Arts Center in downtown Calhoun.

  • August 20, 2010 Indie Night at the Ratner Theater. Independent bands will be performing on stage one Friday night each month. A bluegrass band, The Coosa Valley Boys with special guest Gary Greene, will be featured in August. Show time is 7 PM and tickets are just $10 per person.
  • August 21, 2010 The Lawrence S. Weaver Chamber Chorale will be performing in concert at 7 PM. Tickets are $15 per person for non members, $12 for Harris Arts members. The show is being brought to you by The Roland Hayes Museum Committee.
  • August 28, 2010 “On the Road Again” is a show being performed by the Community Chorus and Friends with special guests from CGT 2010 Performers, Stars of The Century Performers, Calhoun High School Boys Quartet, and Gordon Central Chorale. Show time is 8 PM and tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 seniors and students.

Visit Calhoun, Georgia

Calhoun is a charming town in Gordon County, located in northwestern Georgia, just a short distance from Atlanta. History of the Cherokee Indian Nation is abundant here, including the New Echota Historic Site which was the capital of the Cherokee Nation back in the 1800s. Come visit in the Fall for the Cherokee Fall Festival in October, or the Red Clay Arts and Crafts Festival in November. You don’t have to look hard or travel far to find something interesting and exciting to do in Calhoun!
