			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Laura Cortese&#8217;s Acoustic Project will perform at the Harris Arts Center in Calhoun, Georgia on <strong>January 15, 2012</strong> at 3 PM. This talented group of female musicians consists of  2 fiddlers and a cellist. They will be holding a Fiddler/Cello workshop that emphasizes on learning tunes by ear at a moderate to fast pace after the concert from 5:30 PM to 7 PM. There will be some local favorites, Cameron Federal and Russell Cook of Little Country Giants, performing as well.</p>
<p>Tickets are $10 for the concert and $35 for the workshop. Those who are interested in the workshop can register at the concert or call the Harris Arts Center at 706-629-2599 to pre-register.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Get a glimpse into the way of life of the Cherokee Indian Nation in the 1820s on <strong>October 15, 2011</strong> from 10 AM to 4 PM at the New Echota Historic Site in Calhoun, Georgia. Take a tour of the grounds and buildings to witness Cherokee artists and craftsmen demonstrating blacksmithing, candlemaking, basket making, weaving, and weaponry as it was done in the early 19th century.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Register to participate in the XVIII Annual United Way United Run on September 27, 2011 in downtown Calhoun, Georgia.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The XVIII Annual United Way Unity Run will be held on <strong>September 27, 2011</strong> in Calhoun, Georgia. A 1K Kids&#8217; Run (Pre-K through 5th grade) will start and finish at Gordon Central High School. This race begins at 5 PM. A 5K Run/Walk will begin at 6:30 PM at Gordon Central High School and will end in downtown Calhoun. Plan on staying in town for the big finish line party that will be happening after the race.</p>
<p>Race day registration starts at 4:30 PM at Gordon Central High School. Anyone who has pre-registered can pick up their numbers on September 26, 2011 from 2PM to 6 PM at the Calhoun Depot.</p>
<p>Buses will run from the Depot in downtown Calhoun to the high school before the race. You will want to park downtown and ride the bus because there will be NO buses running after the race.</p>
<p>All proceeds will go to benefit the 18 United Way agencies working in Gordon County. For more information, call 706-602-5548.</p>

The keynote speaker for this year is critically acclaimed author Jackie Lee Miles.</p>
<p>The event begins on Friday night, May 6, with a kick off dinner you can enjoy with several authors and workshop leaders at the Velo Vineyard in downtown Calhoun. Dine while you participate in a workshop by publisher Tony Burton of Wolfmont Press called, &#8220;What a Publisher Wants From You.&#8221; Dinner is $15 and is not included in the price of the conference. You must contact the Harris Arts Center at 706-629-2599 to make reservations.</p>

This program starts off at 8 AM with a 2 mile bird walk  around Tarvin Branch Pond and Newtown Creek then continues at 10:30 AM with a plant and wildflower walk. Register in advance for a nature photography workshop that will will take place at 1:30 PM. Make a whole day of it and stay late for the 8 PM star party with telescopes. This will be a wonderful day of enjoying nature and the world around you.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Bring the kids out for a fun time at the Coulter Hampton Day at the Fairmount Elementary School in Fairmount, Georgia.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Bring the whole family out to Fairmount Elementary School on <strong>March 12, 2011</strong> from 10 AM to 2 PM for Coulter Hampton Day. This will be a lot of fun with games, pony rides, inflatables, a petting zoo and more.</p>
<p>2 arm band options are available:<br />
Option 1: $5 for all day play in the inflatables.<br />
Option 2: $20 for all day play including the inflatables, games, euro jumper, pony ride, admission to the petting zoo (doesn&#8217;t include food) and lunch (1 slice of pizza or 1 hot dog/ chips/ drink)</p>
<p>This day is dedicated to a young man, Coulter Hampton, who lost his life to a horrible disease, aplastic anemia/dyskerasosis congenita. The event is hosted by the Coulter Hampton Foundation, a non profit organization whose mission is to help other children and their families who are fighting this disease and other childhood illnesses in Gordon County.
