Calhoun’s Got Talent 2012

Come out to the Harris Arts Center in Calhoun, Georgia for the 3rd annual Calhoun’s Got Talent starting on July 21, 2012 at 7 PM. See some interesting and talented performers and get your chance to vote for your favorite. This talent show will span over 3 weeks with the first show on Saturday, July 21, the second on July 28, and the finale on August 4. Your votes will determine who goes on to the next round. The prizes for winners are $1,000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd place, and $250 for 3rd place and will be presented at the show finale on August 4.

Summer Camps at the Harris Arts Center

The Harris Arts Center in Calhoun, Georgia is hosting 3 different summer camps in the month of June, 2012.
Wheel Throwing Pottery Camp
June 4 – 8, 2012 – 1 PM – 2:30 PM
This camp is for students ages 13 and up. There will be hands on instructions as they learn basic pottery wheel throwing techniques. Students will glaze their pieces and they will be fired so they can be keep their works of art. The cost of this camp is $125 per student ($100 for Harris Arts Center members). All supplies are included.
Missoula Children’s Theater Camp
June 11 – 16, 2012 – 10 AM – 2:30 PM
This camp is open to all students grades 1 – 12. Parts will be cast and rehearsed throughout the week learning lines, songs, and choreography to put on a full length production of the play “Beauty Lou and the Country Beast”. The cost is $90 per person ($75 for HAC members).
Children’s Art Camp
June 18 – 22, 2012 – 9 AM to 11:30 AM OR 1 PM to 3:30 PM
This camp is for children ages 7 – 13. Art instructors Penny Dobson and Mary Nell Podgorny will use a variety of media focusing on the fundamentals of color, composition, and design. All of the children will participate in an art show and reception at the end of the camp and will be able to take all of their completed artwork home. The cost is $90 per student ($75 for HAC members)

Radio Gals

Radio Gals is an entertaining musical being performed at the Harris Arts Center in Calhoun, Georgia on March 22 – 25, 2012. This musical is set in the 1920′s and is about a woman, Hazel Hunt, who receives a radio transmitter after retiring as the town music teacher and decides to start her own radio station, WGAL. There is lots of singing and playing by The Hazelnuts, an all girl’s orchestra and the lovesick flapper, Gladys Fritts as well as the small town diary, calendar, and a stream of consciousness over the local airwaves and come to find out, not so local. A federal radio inspector comes to rescue the airwaves and finds himself falling for the town and the women at the radio station.
Showtimes are 7 PM on March 22 – 24, and matinees on March 24 at 2 PM and March 25 at 3 PM. Tickets are $15. For more information, call 706-629-2599.

North Georgia Valley Writers Conference

Sign up for the 2nd annual North Georgia Valley Writers Conference taking place at the Harris Arts Center in Calhoun, Georgia on May 6 – 7, 2011. The keynote speaker for this year is critically acclaimed author Jackie Lee Miles.
The event begins on Friday night, May 6, with a kick off dinner you can enjoy with several authors and workshop leaders at the Velo Vineyard in downtown Calhoun. Dine while you participate in a workshop by publisher Tony Burton of Wolfmont Press called, “What a Publisher Wants From You.” Dinner is $15 and is not included in the price of the conference. You must contact the Harris Arts Center at 706-629-2599 to make reservations.

Neil Simon’s Rumors

Neil Simon’s Rumors is a comedic play that is being performed at the Harris Arts Center in Calhoun, Georgia on March 18-20 and 25-26, 2011.
This play is a humorous story about several affluent couples who find themselves having to cover up some complicated events that arise at a dinner party in a posh suburban home in New York City.

The Three Divas

The Harris Arts Center in Calhoun, Georgia presents celebrity impersonator Joanna Maddox in the musical event The Three Divas. You won’t want to miss her as she recreates the persona and musical talents of Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, and Tina Turner. This show takes place on February 20, 2011 at 4 PM.

A Visual Celebration of Black Heritage

The Harris Arts Center will have “A Visual Celebration of Black Heritage” on display from January 24 to February 28, 2011. This art display features 2D and 3D art creations by eight regional artists. A reception will be held for this art exhibit on February 5, 2011 from 2 PM to 4 PM.
