Spring at New Echota

SpringCelebrate Spring at New Echota in Calhoun, Georgia on May 7, 2011 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Pack a lunch and come out for the day to help welcome in the spring. There will be historical demonstrations by friends of New Echota, Cherokee artists will be visiting, and guided tours will be just some of what is happening at this annual event.

North Georgia Valley Writers Conference

Writing PenSign up for the 2nd annual North Georgia Valley Writers Conference taking place at the Harris Arts Center in Calhoun, Georgia on May 6 – 7, 2011. The keynote speaker for this year is critically acclaimed author Jackie Lee Miles.

The event begins on Friday night, May 6, with a kick off dinner you can enjoy with several authors and workshop leaders at the Velo Vineyard in downtown Calhoun. Dine while you participate in a workshop by publisher Tony Burton of Wolfmont Press called, “What a Publisher Wants From You.” Dinner is $15 and is not included in the price of the conference. You must contact the Harris Arts Center at 706-629-2599 to make reservations.

The schedule for Saturday’s conference is as follows:

8 AM – 9 AM: Check in at the registration desk. Authors will be available for book signings and sales.
9 AM – 9:15 AM: Introduction and welcome by Literary Chair, Gray Bridges
9:15 AM – 10:45 AM: Five Things that Make a Good Story Great with keynote speaker, Jackie Lee Miles
11 AM – 12:30 PM:
Workshop ARecipes for Success: a complete guide to writing cookbooks, food blogs, reviews, and more with Aletia DuPree
Workshop B -  Writing Past Grief with Jessica Handler
12:30 PM – 1:30 PM – Break for lunch. (Price of lunch is not included in the cost of the conference)
1:30 PM – 2 PM – Panel discussion – How the Face of Publishing has Changed.

7:45 PM – Conference attendees are invited to join some of the authors and workshop leaders for dinner at Ruby Tuesday’s on Highway 53 by I-75. (The cost of dinner is not included in the price of the conference)
